This week's review is coming later than usual because we've been at the Frederick Fair. I'll get to that later, though. Going back to last Saturday...it was a pretty busy day. We did a bunch of shopping in the morning. Seth needed new shoes and some jeans, so we got those. I have been wanting to invest in a good set of pots and pans because all the ones we had were pretty beat up and we are using them a lot. I had three requirements: they need to be made from something other than aluminum, they need to be nonstick, and they need to have straining lids. I was happy that we found exactly what I was looking for, and I have enjoyed using them all week. We also got some new towels because our towels were getting really worn out too. The shopping took up most of our morning. In the afternoon I watched Uncle Joe's funeral, which was really nice. Then we went to a ward activity. It was at a park...we had dinner and some people played kickball and softball. Seth's assignment for his digital photography class was to get photos of hands, so he took the camera to the activity and got all the photos he needed. After we got back from the activity, Seth mowed the lawn and I cleaned the kitchen floor while Frank got some work done for a client. I stayed up REALLY late to watch the BYU football game. (Last week Frank stayed up to watch the whole game, but I didn't.) Frank went to bed but he woke up later and watched the rest of the game. It's fun to see BYU win some games!
We had our usual church meetings on Sunday, plus Seth and Frank had a stake priesthood meeting that evening. It was a nice day of rest!
I had a lot of errands to run on Monday morning...grocery shopping, put gas in my car, pick up my new glasses which came in on Saturday, look for some items we needed for the YW activity this week. I got everything done except I couldn't find any leis...one of the items we needed for the YW activity. Luckily, I had a few leis in the storage unit and that turned out to be enough because even the party store didn't have them. For family night we played the game of Life which I won because I had the best salary. Frank and I both had a set of twins too. :)
On Tuesday I had lunch with my friend Rebekah and that evening I had book chat. We discussed The Indigo Girl, which we all liked. Now we are reading The Graveyard Book, which is a Newbery winner. I've read it before but it's been a while so I am reading it again.
We had a pretty strange YW activity on Wednesday night, but it was fun (but not my idea!) We had a "funeral" for summer. Among other things, we wrote down our favorite things about summer on pieces of paper and then folded them into paper airplanes and flew them. We also had some of our favorite summer foods like ice cream and lemonade.
We also wore black to fit the funeral theme, but we also wore leis since it was for summer. Like I said...kind of strange, but we did have fun!
It rained again on Wednesday night...I think it has rained every Wednesday evening for the last 4 weeks straight. It was raining pretty hard when we got up on Thursday morning. While I was exercising, I was surprised to get a text message saying that schools were closed for the day. What?? It turns out it had rained quite heavily early Thursday morning and there was a lot of flash flooding on the roads again. I think we probably would have had a 2 hour delay instead of closing completely, but the schools were scheduled to get out 2 hours early on Thursday. We were all up, so we didn't go back to bed but Seth enjoyed having a day off. I'm not too thrilled that we have already used 2 "snow days" and it's only September!! So much for getting out earlier this school year.
The rain cleared up after a few hours on Thursday and then the sun came out and it was actually a beautiful day. Seth had an orthodontist appointment that afternoon. He can pick a different color for his bands each time he gets his braces adjusted, and this time he chose orange for Halloween.
Today the schools got out 3 1/2 hours early for "Fair Day". Seth didn't have Seminary today either so we got up an hour later this morning. I had a follow up visit with the eye doctor for my trial contact lenses, which I have been wearing this week. I have actually worn them at least part of the day every day. They seem to be working fairly well but I definitely need to use reading glasses to help with a lot of close up things. The eye doctor decided to tweak my prescription a bit and order a different trial pair, so I will have to go back to get those when they come in.
This afternoon / evening we went to the fair, as I mentioned. Frank was able to get 2 free admission tickets and free parking from his work, and Seth could get in free today because all kids under 18 were free. (We still spent plenty on food and ride tickets!) We looked at a lot of animals including this cute 1 week old baby cow:
We got some food and then Frank and Seth looked at chickens and rabbits while I went to the arts & crafts building to see all the quilts and crochet projects and sewing projects. Then Seth went on the bumper cars and we all took a ride on the ferris wheel before coming home. It took a long time to do the rides because the lines were really long.
Seth got really freaked out when we first got on the ferris wheel, but he finally calmed down after he realized we weren't going to go very fast. (I think he did the same thing when we went on the ferris wheel 2 years ago!) It always makes me a little nervous too since I'm not great with heights, but the views are always amazing.
In my free time this week I've continued to work on the woven ribbon pillows. I finished both of the pillow tops and yesterday I purchased the fabric to make the backs, so I should be able to finish them soon. I finished the first one last Saturday:
And I finished the second one yesterday:
While I have been working on these projects, I have been listening to an audio book about President Nelson. I have really been enjoying the book. Learning more about him has been really great...he is truly an amazing person!!
That's all the news from our neck of the woods.
