Weekly Review July 31 '14

Another week gone by already!  It will be time for school to start before we know it.  I'm not really looking forward to that, except that I get to come to Utah and see some of you.

Our Sunday was busy, as always.  I had PEC instead of Ward Council, which means I got to sleep in an extra half hour.  I had choir practice as usual and we sang in Sacrament Meeting.  Now we get a month off, which will be kind of a nice break even though I enjoy choir a lot.  We invited a family in our ward to come to dinner but they were feeding the missionaries, so we ended up going to their house instead of them coming to ours.  We brought our dinner contributions to combine with what they made, so we had a lot of food!  And it was fun to visit.  Tanner & Jared had a song practice for the musical number they are singing at Youth Conference.  Every time they perform this song, they think it is going to be their last time to perform it and then someone who hears it asks them to sing it at something else, so this will be their fourth performance.  They are joking that they are going to end up singing it at General Conference before they're through!  Well,  now they've been asked to sing it this Saturday at a special multi-stake Auxiliary Training Meeting (I'm supposed to be there) and the training will be done by one of the counselors in the General YW Presidency, so who knows? :)

This week has been pretty busy, too.  Besides all the normal household chores and RS stuff, I did all of these things too:

  • Got Scott's birthday package put together and mailed it.  I made Tanner come with me to pick out some ties for Scott.
  • Filled a prescription for Tanner.
  • Reserved two sites at a campground so we can go camping with Erin & Dan next week.
  • Wrote the presidency message for the RS newsletter
  • Exercised
  • Helped Tanner go through the online loan counseling he had to do so he can get a loan for his tuition
  • Had the sister missionaries over for dinner
  • Tanner & Jared pulled weeds in the front yard
  • Sewed--worked on the baseball pants; ran into problems with the 2nd row of braid so I had to unpick it all and start over.  I did successfully sew on another patch, though.
  • Had a Presidency meeting
  • Took Seth and Jared to get haircuts
  • Went to a farewell party for a friend who's moving
  • Went to Scout Committee Meeting
  • Worked on visiting teaching changes
  • Helped Tanner and Jared get ready for Youth Conference
  • Sent out e-mails soliciting help for sisters who are moving
I probably forgot a couple of things!  I still need to figure out visiting teaching changes...haven't finished with that yet.  I have a lot of other things going on too so it's going to be a busy weekend.

Tanner and Jared left for Youth Conference this morning.  We had one of their friends--Nathan--stay here last night who went to Youth Conference too.  He used to live here in our ward, but moved to Florida last year.  He's been here visiting for a few weeks and he's stayed with a couple of the families in the ward.  I thought he was going to be staying with us after Youth Conference, but he ended up coming the day before which was a surprise but fortunately it was no problem to have him come early.  For Youth Conference this year, they are staying at a college in Westminster (about an hour away) and it is a regional conference...they are meeting with 3 or 4 other stakes.  Hopefully they are having a good time.

Other than that, there is not much to say except that we've been getting a taste this last week of what it will be like to have a missionary come home in another 8 months.  It's been interesting to observe Tanner and some of the ways he's changed.  He did delete almost all the games off of his iPod and he hasn't been spending as much time on there (although he definitely still uses it).  I've also noticed that he is much quicker to help when I ask him to do something and he is also taking the initiative to do some things without being asked.  The first night he was home, he reminded us that we needed to read scriptures as a family (urged us to read them, actually)...something we have been struggling to do consistently, so that is helpful!  He also left his iPod home when we went to church (he took his scriptures instead, and paid more attention in meetings than he usually does), and after church he got out the last Conference issue of the Ensign and read some talks.  Don't get me wrong...he has always been helpful as well as interested in spiritual things, but we've seen everything bumped up a notch or two.  We're feeling so grateful that he had the experience of being on the work crew and spending a month at the Hill Cumorah!  He'll never be quite the same...that experience changed him.

That's all I've got for this week; sorry, no pictures!
