Weekly Review October 5 '18

I feel like I have been very busy this week, although I'm not sure why. Today is a perfectly beautiful fall day--sunny and the perfect temperature. I love it!

Last Friday when I wrote Frank and I were about to go to lunch. It was nice to spend some time together and to talk about some things. Frank mentioned that he thought Seth was doing better lately--not so easily angered, happier, more cooperative. I told him that I had been noticing that too! Ironically, Seth had a really rough week this last week--he was a lot more impatient, complained about a lot of things and had at least one major meltdown. So that was kind of discouraging, but hopefully he will be back to being happy Seth soon. On Friday evening we weeded in the front flower bed and I mowed the lawn.

Saturday was really busy. In the morning we were visited by one of the sister missionaries who served here and her family.

Then Frank took Seth to play at a friend's house while I cleaned the kitchen floor. We had some shopping to do and then we picked Seth up again. I worked on a project for Christmas, I worked on a personal history post (still not finished with it, but I'm making progress) and I got my office / craft room mostly set up. After dinner I went to a friend's house to do some weeding for them. They are a family in our ward--the mom has cancer and the dad recently had back surgery and their adult daughter who lives with them has lots of health problems too. They recently moved to the house where they are living, too and are still trying to get completely settled and empty out the old house. So they've had a lot going on! I emailed the daughter earlier in the week to see if I could do anything to help them and she said they could use help with weeding. So I was able to get a section of their flower bed weeded that evening before the sun went down. They live out in the country a little ways and the drive to their house was beautiful. And since I waited until evening, it wasn't very hot while I was weeding. They have a beautiful view from their backyard and I could have sat there all day just enjoying that! (But I weeded instead.) After I got back home, Seth and I watched part of the BYU football game but it went too late to watch the whole thing (and BYU was losing anyway!)

Sunday was a nice day of rest. I didn't have choir practice but I helped Seth work on his Faith in God and I did a lot of indexing. We had family night in the evening.

Monday I had all the usual chores (vacuuming, laundry, grocery shopping...) and I also gave Seth his allowance, got out the fall decorations (we do not have many), and started filling out the FAFSA for Tanner. The website for the FAFSA was having problems and booted me out a few times but I managed to get most of his FAFSA done. That evening we had family night activity and treat.

Tuesday I also had regular chores plus I got things ready for den meeting. That evening I had book chat. We discussed Slaughterhouse Five; had a really interesting discussion. It was a strange book but there was a lot to talk about.

Wednesday is always kind of crazy and this week was no exception. After dropping Seth off at school, Frank and I went to Walmart to do the weekly shopping. I had a long list and it took a long time. I can't figure out why we need so many things for only 3 people! Anyway, I was trying to get done so that I could go help another friend who is moving. The shopping took a lot longer than I anticipated so by the time I got to my friend's house the packing was done but they did have a lot of smaller items that needed to be carried out to the moving truck so I was able to help with that and we got everything done. Then I went right from there to religion class. That evening I had den meeting. My boys built a Rube Goldberg machine. It was fun to see what they were able to come up with!

I'm not sure where Thursday went--I just know I was busy all day and I was kind of having a hard day. Mostly I am just stressed about the job situation and I feel like every time I try to do anything to find a job, I hit a brick wall. Like yesterday I was looking into getting some training on QuickBooks because a lot of potential employers want someone with QuickBooks experience. Most classes seem geared toward people who already own and use QuickBooks and just want to know how to use it better or customize it. I looked at several options, and for all of them I would need to own the software program already (either loaded on my computer or the online version), and I don't. I don't really want to buy a program that I don't need except that it MIGHT help me get a job. Plus I don't know which version (online or desktop) would be better for me to learn--some employers want you to know one and some want you to know the other. And finally, the classes were super expensive. So that was really frustrating! I've been trying to sign up for a tax preparation course too but none of them have seats available or they started a few weeks ago (or both). It's just things like that constantly. So yeah--I kind of had a small meltdown yesterday. I'm feeling a bit better today though. Last night we had a rain storm and then the sun came back out and we saw this:

If you look closely in the second photo, you can see a second, very faint rainbow. Rainbows always cheer me up!

Today has been really busy too. This morning there was an open house at Seth's school and Frank and I went to that. First we saw a class demonstrate a lesson about how we got our alphabet and then we went up to Seth's classroom and he demonstrated one of the things he is working on with fractions.

After the school, we stopped at one of Frank's clients so he could do something for them (I stayed in the car and read scriptures) and then we came home and I got the budget done. Seth got out of school two hours early today and Frank picked him up for me. (He's actually done quite a few drops offs and pick ups this week.) I enjoyed working in the new office area that I set up on Saturday.

I'm not completely done getting things set up yet (some things still need to be removed) but here is how the whole room looks now:

I haven't had time to set up the file cabinet yet, but once I do those two file boxes won't be there anymore. There is also a large printer cart on the left of the photo (you can only see a corner of it) that eventually won't be there so things won't be so crowded. Originally I planned to get a desk (instead of just using a table) and a large shelving unit to go on the back wall (where the small shelf is now) but we can't buy furniture right now. The shelf and the table are working just fine for now, though. The craft cabinet I got a few weeks ago is in the corner on the left of the photo. It opens up so there is a place to put a chair when I want to sew. I'll have to take some more pictures of it later. Anyway, I am happy with what I have at this point. This area used to look like this:

So I'd say this is an improvement, what do you think?! At least I don't want to scream every time I come down the stairs now. :)

That doesn't sound like I did a lot this week but every day I also have household tasks, exercising, and practice ukulele. I do brain balance with Seth after school four days a week also and this week I was working on a personal history post every day and looking at job possibilities a couple of days. All of those things seem to fill up any "extra" time that I have.

Now I need to go make dinner for everyone and this evening I am going to a baby shower. Sam arrived a little while ago to spend the weekend with us and Daniel will be here on Sunday part of the day as well. We are really looking forward to General Conference! The weekends we have General Conference are the best.
