This week was fairly busy, with a number of "extra" things going on. Last Friday I went to a special stake fireside. The speaker was the director of a nurse / midwife training center located in Iraq. LDS Charities had a lot to do with this center being built, and a member of our stake was heavily involved with the process. Last fall, our stake had a stake RS activity that included making baby blankets to send to this center in Iraq. It was interesting to hear all the information and stories that the director had to share. She also had photos, including some photos of newborn babies wrapped up in the blankets we sent.
Seth had his first driving on the road session on Saturday morning. Somehow I got mixed up and thought his appointment was at 8:00; it was actually at 10:00. Oh well! I just had to take him back over later. Frank picked him up when he was done and took him to lunch. Apparently he did pretty well. The instructor told him that he drove about the same as someone who has had about 30 hours of driving on the road time. He'd actually only had about 7 1/2 hours of driving on the road time before that session. The instructor did say he needs to work on staying in his lane, slowing down for turns, and slowing down sooner for stops...all things that I have told him multiple times, so it's nice to get some back up!
Frank and I went on a date that afternoon / evening. There was a concert at the temple visitor's center that I wanted to attend and Frank was great and agreed to go with me. On the way down we stopped at a Land's End store so I could do some shopping (wanted to try on some things I'd seen in their catalog) and then we got dinner at a Silver Diner before going on to the concert. We still had a little bit of time when we arrived at the visitor's center, so we looked around a bit and enjoyed a new display that had just opened called Worlds Without Number: God's Infinite Creation. It was a bunch of photographs of stars, galaxies, etc., along with relevant scriptures. Really nice! The concert was given by the Washington DC Temple Choir. They sang a bunch of patriotic / Americana songs. It was really beautiful and well done and we enjoyed it a lot.

Sunday was busier than usual for me because that afternoon I had a ministering visit and that evening was Seminary graduation. My visit was to see new sisters who were just assigned to me. They are a mother and daughter who moved into our ward with the boundary change. The daughter is disabled and can't really speak...mostly she can just say "hi", but she has the sweetest smile ever! My ministering companion is blind, so I picked her up to go on the visit and then took her back home. That ended up taking a while, but we had a nice visit.
For Seminary graduation, they asked all the teachers to sit on the stand, and they read all our names and had us stand up so everyone knew who we were. (I didn't enjoy that part much.) One of the two graduating seniors who spoke was a boy from our class and he did a great job. We only had two Seniors in our class this year but they both graduated and it felt good to be there to support them.

The rest of the week has not been as eventful...I guess it was the weekend that was really busy. This was Seth's last week of school. His last "real" day was Wednesday because yesterday they had field day. Today is officially the last day of school but it was only a make up day for kids who needed to finish up work and he didn't need to do that so he didn't have to go. We got a nice email from his English teacher yesterday that said this: "I just wanted to reach out and tell you again what a pleasure it was to teach Seth this semester. He is so mature, has a great sense of humor, and on several occasions when other students were disrespectful, he spoke up when no one else did. To me, that is a rare and cherished quality in a teen and it made such a huge difference. I hope you all have a great summer and thank you for raising an awesome human!" Okay, we laughed a little bit about the statement that he is mature, but in some ways he really is. In a lot of other ways, he is still like a little kid. (Like he still wants Legos for his birthday! 😂) But seriously, it kind of made my day. We're thankful that he is making so many good choices.
I spent most of the week just keeping up with all the regular things that need to be done, but I did get a few other things done. I continued working on the kitchen and it's done now except for the window. I started working on cleaning / decluttering the living room and I have most of it done now too. (Still need to tackle the coat closet and clean the floor and walls, but everything else is done.) I have a big box of things to donate and I threw away a lot of stuff too. This project is taking a lot longer than I anticipated but I will just keep plugging away at it when I have time and hopefully I'll be done before the summer ends! I also did some more photo and scrapbook page scanning and quite a bit of reading. I finished It Can't Happen Here and I'm well into the next book for book chat which is called The Hail Mary Project. It's science fiction, which is not a genre we read often and usually isn't my first choice, but I'm really enjoying this book. I think both Frank and Seth would like it too. I'd like to get it done before we leave for Utah...mainly because it is really large, so I don't want to take it with me. We'll see if I actually get it done though. I finished cutting out all the quilt block templates and I have a list of fabrics to buy for that project, but haven't made it to the store yet.
I went to the doctor last night because I've been battling a yeast infection all week (first noticed symptoms on Saturday). I did an OTC treatment on Sunday which really seemed to help for a few days but then my symptoms came back. The doctor gave me a prescription medication which I was able to pick up and take today so hopefully that will knock it out for good and I will start feeling better in a day or two.

We've seen quite a few deer and racoons around lately too and there are always groundhogs and tons of squirrels!
I talked to both Scott and Tanner more than once this week. I forgot to mention last week that Tanner's divorce was final on the 28th. I think it will be good for him to be able to move forward now. He ran a half marathon on Saturday and met his goal to complete the race without slowing down or stopping. He just started training for this race in late March, so it's pretty impressive that he was able to finish the race at all, in my opinion. Frank and I are both really happy for him. I think it is so good for him to see that he can succeed and accomplish a goal if he plans for it and works hard for it. We're really proud of him for all the effort he put into it! Tanner will be coming out to visit us for a week in July and Scott is talking about coming out in August sometime.
We've had quite a bit of rain, off and on, this week. We've had a few beautiful days and overall it's still cooler than usual although the last few days the humidity has jumped which makes it feel a lot less comfortable.
That's all the news I can think of for this week.
