Weekly Review May 12 '17

I’m not going to do a daily rundown this week. I’m going to do categories instead.

Health: When I wrote on Sunday I mentioned I had a headache. It got really intense so I spent Sunday evening basically feeling miserable. Meanwhile, Frank said his stomach wasn’t feeling well and then he threw up! He was able to eat again on Monday and I never got that, thankfully, although I didn’t have much appetite for a few days. The headache kind of came and went for a few days but seems to be gone now, thankfully. Frank and I are both feeling a lot better overall, but Frank still has a cough and I feel like I’m still trying to completely shake this illness because I’m still congested and have a slight sore throat, off and on. It could be worse, though, and I have been able to get a lot done this week so I am not complaining.

Weather: We are in this weird cold spell with highs in the 50s most days. It feels like March instead of May, but then March felt like May instead of March. We’ve had a lot of rain lately and yesterday we had a steady down pour all day long. I’m glad I mowed the lawn on Wednesday!

Seth’s Birthday Party Preparations: This is what took up most of my free time this week. I went shopping for decorations, paper products, and favors. I sent out a reminder to all the people who hadn’t sent an RSVP yet (most of them!). I put together treat bags. I baked two batches of cupcakes. Last night Seth and I made these fun rice krispy treats. We spread different colors of frosting on top of each treat and then added 6 M&Ms to each treat, in colors to match the frosting colors. They look like Lego bricks! (I will attach a picture.) They were easy and fun to make, and I am happy with how they turned out. Today I also called the mom of a girl in Seth’s class because I discovered today that he had meant to invite her and thought that he had told me to invite her, but somehow I didn’t get that message so she hadn’t been invited. It turns out that her mom was fine with her coming even at such late notice, so that was nice. All of the people I reminded also responded throughout the week and it turns out that everybody said yes, so we are going to have 12 kids at this party, including Seth. It should be fun, though. All we have to do tomorrow morning is decorate cupcakes and get some balloons. Everything else is ready to go.

Wal-Mart: I made FAR too many trips to Wal-Mart this week! Usually I manage to keep it down to one trip, but I’ve been there 3 times in the last 3 days, and Frank went there tonight too! I blame the party. Or I’m getting senile.

Cub Scouts: For den meeting this week we starting making soap carvings. Five boys, each with a pocket knife in his hand. So much fun!! No one cut off a finger, so I consider that a success.

Exercise: I didn’t exercise at all last week because I was sick but I started up again on Tuesday of this week. I had lost nearly 3 pounds, in spite of not exercising—probably because I didn’t have much appetite so I hardly ate anything for over a week. Plus I spent two days walking all over Washington DC. This week I’ve gained most of those 3 pounds back, in spite of exercising but that’s probably because I started eating again. If only I didn't need to eat, I would be skinny! :)

Cruise preparations: I ordered some swimwear and we cancelled one of our shore excursions because one of our excursions got moved to a different time and it was at the same time as another excursion and obviously we can’t be two places at once. It was kind of annoying that they did that; we didn’t have any choice. Oh well, I’m sure we’re still going to have fun!

Crocheting: I’m still doing it every day (except Sunday) and I got to add two new colors to the blanket this week.

Look how long the blanket is getting!

I got to start using two different blue colors because I'm into the winter months now, with colder temperatures.

Snickers: He had his blood tested again on Monday to see if his liver readings are any better. They have improved slightly, but not enough. Now they are trying to decide if they need to do a biopsy on his liver. We’re not sure what is going to happen with that yet. I’m trying not to think how much that is going to cost, plus I’m sure it would not be fun for him. Meanwhile, he started having problems with diarrhea on Wednesday evening which meant we got to get up and take him out a couple of times in the middle of the night, I had a few messes to clean up Thursday morning, and I had to give him a bath on Thursday too. I called the vet to update her on how he was doing and she decided that she wanted him evaluated so Frank and I took him in to the vet last night. They decided that he just has some kind of intestinal bug and that it’s not related to his liver at all. He’s on a special diet and some new medicine for that. Oh joy! He does seem to be feeling a lot better already, though.

Seth: He got to report on his trip to the White House to his school class today (I sent pictures to his teacher.) He would have done that earlier in the week except he had standardized testing at school all week (except for today). He feels like the testing went well; I guess we will see when we get the results in a few months. He usually does pretty well on these tests. Today school got out two hours early. We finished reading the first Percy Jackson book this week but we haven’t started the next one yet.

I think that is it!
